Wastewater Treatment Plant

Orp-le-grand

2011

Client : IBW
Architect : Architecte JMS
Photographer : BE Matriche - Franki - IBW

Project scope :
Construction of an open-air wastewater treatment plant in Macret, on poor-quality alluvial soil. The various basins will not exceed 1.2 m above ground level to ensure the infrastructure blends into the surrounding rural landscape.

Project description :
The tanks, basins, and other components had to be installed below the groundwater table, which required watertight perimeter walls, piles, and anti-uplift measures.

Technical note :
This project highlights the complexity of civil engineering works. The bottom plug slabs, tied to the perimeter walls, had to be installed underwater with divers working at the bottom of the excavation, because water inflows percolating through the gravelly subsoil were unavoidable given the inability to embed the watertight walls deep enough.
